Sugarlicks has a custom built valve sound studio for recording and mixing. The studio currently runs a vintage analog pultec/neve tube console, with both valve and klark-teknik Eq, a pro tools rig, and some delicious outboard gear, plus a synth and instrument selection.
The studio also includes pultec valve compression, rola spring reverb, Roland Space Echo, Akai MPC 3000, Native Instruments Maschine and logic DAW.
Including in the studio is also a large vinyl library, including jazz, soul, rock, reggae, dub, experimental, soundtracks and rarities.
We make deep soulful music, and our specialty is in achieving a lush-warm-rich and think sound. Magic happens …
We have recorded, mixed and produced for the Sugarlicks artists and other friends and contacts including Solaa and Opensouls, Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Hollie Smith, Nathan Haines, Mark De Clive Lowe & various other modern urban music heads. We also have made music for TV and film.
Please contact us for any further information about the studio or production.
The Sugarlicks Studio was established in Auckland city in 2003, as a result of the overwhelming response to the monthly Sugarlicks showcase night at Khuja Lounge. The Sugarlicks showcase involved artists and performers doing their thing every month (spoken word, beat poetry, live bands, Pacific drumming, dance, vocal PA’s etc), to a packed house. It grew to become the most dynamic showcase in Auckland and was filmed by the BBC for their Lonely Planet series.
The studio had its humble beginnings in a small shed in Waterview, and has since been relocated to New Lynn, Downtown, and now Grey Lynn, Auckland.
